the charlotte adventure begins

Hi! (or should I say “Hey Y’all” because I’m southern now?)

I landed in Charlotte six months ago

(haha, get it? landed? I am so punny).

Since my move to the Queen City, life has been a whirlwind. Charlotte is a world of new for me: new job, new apartment, new friends, new surroundings. Two years ago, I didn’t know much about Charlotte (I knew Charlotte had an airport from many a connecting flight, that it used to be home to the Hornets, as a proud owner of a teal and purple starter jacket in 4th grade, and that it was in North Carolina, somewhere between the ocean and the mountains). Fast forward to this year, when I decided to make Charlotte my home and use it as the starting point in my career as a lawyer (a brief ten week stint in Charlotte as an intern the summer after my second year in law school led to a tremendous job opportunity in the Queen City).

I have enjoyed trying all of the new things Charlotte has to offer (especially barbecue and fried chicken, among other non foodie activities). I love going out to eat and drink, and try to do so as much as I can (really as much as my budget will allow, student loans are rough). Going out gives me the opportunity to see different places in the city, socialize with my (new) friends, and eat and drink delicious things. A few weeks ago, I decided that I would write about the places I go and the food I try, because I like to write and I like to eat (I also have become slightly obsessive with Yelp, and love giving and getting recommendations of new places to try).

Here, you can learn more about me and learn more about my new hobby/project/experiment (including my approach to rating the places I visit).  As I am new to blogging, this project may be off to a rocky start, but I hope you enjoy reading about the delicious food and drink the Queen City has to offer.

  1. Hi, I know you write about the food scene in Charlotte. Do you have any recommendation on where to stay if I have to work in Uptown? Thanks!

    1. Yes! The Kimpton Tryon Park Hotel near Romare Bearden Park is nice, The Center City Marriott, The Dunhill if you’re looking for something locally owned, my mom has stayed at aloft at the Epicenter and it’s clean and right in the middle of everything, and the Hyatt Place Charlotte Downtown. Le Meridien is nice too but on the edge of Uptown so you would have a 10 or so minute walk to anything downtown.
