best of 2015 | off the eaten path’s top posts

With 2016 two days away, it’s the time of year where we’re going to reflect on the past year and look forward to what’s in store (has anyone made any resolutions yet?). I apologize in advance for the cliches I’m about to throw out to you, but 2015 just flew right by. So as I’m taking the next few days to savor the fun memories and delicious food I ate, I thought it would be fun to take a look at Off the Eaten Path’s top posts in 2015. (and a few of my favorites too!)

kennedy's premium bar and grill all you can eat crabKennedy’s Premium Bar and Grill. God, folks in Charlotte LOVE all you can eat crab. (who knew?) This post is Off the Eaten Path’s most popular post of all time; I truly think readers are trying to tell me I should stuff my face with crab more often.

crock pot buffalo turkey meatballs

Crock Pot Buffalo Turkey Meatballs. I started posting a few recipes here at the end of 2014, but 2015 saw a lot more mixed in with my restaurant visits (if your looking for a complete list, you can head here). These buffalo turkey meatballs are a delicious alternative to messy chicken wings, are perfect for game day (hint hint, Super Bowl parties) and can be made to be gluten free!

Charlotte’s Best Bites.

Launching my collaborative dining guide, Charlotte Best Bites, was definitely one of the highlights of 2015. It’s fun to see where everyone loves to eat in the Queen City. I’m always looking for contributors, so you should sign up for a post! You don’t have to be a blogger or a writer to contribute, you just have to like eating in Charlotte.hornets' buzzworthy concessions hugos big boss burgerHornet’s Buzzworthy Concessions. The buzz is back and people really want to know what they can eat and drink at Time Warner Cable Arena. You’ll find me at a Hornets’ game this season cheering for Frank the Tank and chowing down on some Queen City Q nachos.

firehouse subsFirehouse Subs. Two years ago, my friend, Kate, and I got to meet Robin Sorenson, co-founder of the popular sandwich chain. He talked to us all about Firehouse’s steaming technique and their delicious Kosher dill pickles.

On the Side: ClassPass. I started a new series on the blog when I wanted to write about something other than food. ClassPass came to Charlotte last winter and helped me switch up my exercise routine.

My Favorite Charlotte Beers. This was a really fun post to write in honor of NC Beer Month. I love the brewery craze in Charlotte.

Fahrenheit. Panoramic skyline views, creative cocktails, and celebrity Chef Rocco Whalen make Fahrenheit a popular spot in the Queen City.

The Punch Room. The Ritz Carlton’s new drinking den debuted in the Spring on 2015 with Bob Peters shaking things up at the bar (Bob the Bartender and The Punch Room have been accepted by James Beard Foundation 2016 Restaurant and Chef  awards in the categories Outstanding Bar Program and Outstanding Wine, Beer and Spirits Professional. You can vote until tomorrow, December 31!)

asheville chews

Asheville Chews. The 2 hour trip to Asheville is totally worth it for all the eating and beer drinking. This post highlights where we ate on a three day long weekend to the mountains.

Charlotte Brews Cruise. We had a really fun evening visiting three different Charlotte Breweries, jamming out to Classic Rock in the van, and tasting a variety of beer samples.

carowinds

Taste of the Carolinas at Carowinds. We embraced our inner child and spent the day riding roller coasters at Carowinds. We sampled food from the Carolinas in between rides.

tomato pie at the cypress of charlotte

The Copper Grille at the Cypress of Charlotte. After attending Chef Brady’s Competition Dining Battle, I fell in love with the spirit of the residents at The Cypress, as well as their love for their chef. I had a delightful lunch at the continuing care community, and wish I could move in!

zada janes corner cafe

Zada Janes Corner Cafe. Order the Bunny Rancheros. One of the best breakfasts in Charlotte.

15 Things to Do in Charlotte in 2015. It was fun to look at this list from last year and see all of the restaurants, breweries, bars and activities that were new to the Queen City in 2015.

And a few of my favorites:

brats

I love cooking and had so much fun sharing recipes this year. A few of my favorites were beer brats two ways, one pot pasta, and pimento cheese deviled eggs.

charlotte gift guide for beer lovers

This year was the first year I posted holiday gift guides. I wanted to keep them super local and highlighted some great gifts for foodies and beer lovers.

#weloveclt

In April, I had the chance to take over the #weloveclt Instagram account. It was a day full of cats, coffee, court, cocktails, and a guest appearance by President Obama (and several food photos, of course).

Off the Eaten Path celebrated it’s second anniversary this year, and it was fun to celebrate with an anniversary post.
