Pumpkin Spice Simple Syrup

This luscious pumpkin spice syrup is made with brown sugar, real pumpkin puree, and warm spices. This delicious syrup is easy to make at home and is the perfect base for a pumpkin old fashioned or addition to your morning coffee.

Equipment

  • 1 saucepan
  • 1 whisk
  • 1 strainer
  • 1 mason jar

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup pure pumpkin puree
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp ground cardamom
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  • In a small saucepan over medium heat, add the water and brown sugar and stir to combine. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally until the sugar dissolves.
  • Once the mixture reaches a boil, reduce the heat to medium low and simmer for 2 minutes.
  • Add pumpkin, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and cardamom and vanilla extract, whisking to combine. Simmer for another 2 to 3 minutes, stirring occasionally, and then remove from the heat. Stir in the vanilla.
  • Cover the saucepan to allow simple syrup to steep while cooling.
  • Once cooled, strain syrup using a fine mesh sieve and/or cheesecloth into an airtight jar and store in the refrigerator for up to one week.

Notes

If you want to use pumpkin pie spice instead of the individual spices, use 1 ΒΌ teaspoons of pumpkin pie spice.
