Notes
A classic old fashioned traditionally features a sugar cube or granulated sugar. Because the pumpkin spice syrup uses a 1:1 sugar-to-water ratio, the ¼ ounce of pumpkin spice syrup in this recipe is equivalent to the 1 sugar cube or 1 teaspoon of sugar that an old fashioned usually calls for. If you prefer sweeter cocktails, you can add additional pumpkin spice syrup up to 1 ounce.
While bourbon is a common choice for making an old fashioned, rye is a great option if you prefer a drink with a drier, spicier kick.
Feel free to substitute the bourbon and bitters with zero-proof options for a non-alcoholic version of this drink.
